Welcome!

This virtual publication is an output of the CODATA Task Group on the Digital Representetion of Units of Measurement (DRUM). It servers as a technical reference and extended documentation surrouding our activities.

For a general overview, latest news, memberships information, please visit our public website at https://drum.codata.org/.

The appropriate representation of units-of-measurement in digital data is a critical issue for science, finance, trade, and so many other disciplines. While this topic might seem trivial, there are currently no formal guidelines about how units of measurement should be represented in digital systems. The problem is exemplified by the fact that there are over 50 different digital representation projects that have been created out of a need in different disciplines.

This task group is thus focused on raising awareness of this issue and collarborating with projects and standards organizations to harmonize representation of measurement units in different types of digital environments.

If you are interested in joining the task group, visit our membership page, fill out this application form, or contact us at drum@coata.org. We are especially interested in recruiting new members that increase the diversity of the group.
